Red Ribbon Campaign 

Significance of Red Ribbon Campaign

The Red Ribbon symbolizes a commitment to a healthy drug-free life-style. 

We encourage you to participate in the 
Red Ribbon activities in October/November
 and to make substance-abuse prevention part of your family’s conversations.

Participation Suggestions:
  • Wear a Red Ribbon all month.
  • Place a Red Ribbon on your front door, mailbox, car antenna, or rear-view mirror
  • Talk with your children about the advantages of living drug-free 
  • Become educated about prevention services in your community and get involved! Ask us how!
  • Participate in our Red Ribbon Half Marathon, 5K, and Kids' Fun Run in November!

Facts about Alcohol and Other Drug Use:

•    Alcohol is the #1 drug of choice for youth.
•    The average age for first time alcohol use is 11.5.
•    Children of alcoholics have a four times greater risk of developing alcoholism than children of non-alcoholics.
•    Alcohol-related crashes are the #1 killer of youth age 15-24.
•    It can take only six months for an adolescent to become an alcoholic.

  • 83% of students in  Polk County                                      DO NOT use alcohol.
  • 95% of students in Polk County  DO NOT use tobacco.
  • 88% of students in Polk County  DO NOT use marijuana.
  • 98% of students in Polk Counties DO NOT abuse prescription drugs.
